The numerous programs
forming the LSU Hurricane Center have a wide array of resources that are shared
between the participating faculty. We are in the process of putting together a
comprehensive list and description of these facilities. A few of the major
resources include:
- The LSU Earth Scan Laboratory is one of
the few university-based remote sensing programs with its own satellite data
receiving stations, and has an extensive library of historical imagery.
- The Southern Regional Climate Center
maintains meteorological and climate data for most of the southeastern
United States.
- The LSU Wind Tunnel Laboratory has
recently obtained a new wind tunnel with both aerodynamic and boundary layer
test sections. It has state-of-the-art equipment for flow visualization,
flow measurement, and force and pressure measurement.
- The Coastal Studies Institute maintains
a large wave tank used to study coastal erosion phenomena.
- The Department of Geography and
Anthropology and the Louisiana Geological Survey (LGS) both have fully
equipped GIS labs. LGS also maintains state-of-the-art map production and
publishing facilities.
The LSU Hurricane Center is
beginning to collect materials for a Hurricane Library.
