NATIONAL HURRICANE CONFERENCE

The LSU Hurricane Center recently co-sponsored the 2000 National Hurricane Conference.
This annual conference was held in New Orleans on April 17-21.
Attendance was estimated at 1,850, the largest ever.

 

A total of 15 LSU faculty, research staff, graduate, and undergraduate students participated in the conference. Hurricane Center faculty made four presentations at conference workshops. These presentations were:

Private Industry Workshop Presentation:
"Are Petrochemical Facilities Appropriately designed to Withstand Hurricane Winds?" by Marc Levitan
Sheltering Workshop Presentations:
"Does the Flood Model Predict if We Can Put the People There?"  by Joe Suhayda
"Can This Building Withstand the Wind and Water?"  by Marc Levitan
Evacuation Workshop Presentation:
"Traffic Monitoring and Management Technologies: Application to Evacuation Problems."  by Brian Wolshon
