TRB Subcommittee on Hurricane Evacuation

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) Technical Committee on Transportation Safety Management (Committee No. A3B01) has sponsored the creation of a new Subcommittee on Emergency Evacuations.  The first formal meeting will be held at the 2002 TRB Annual Meeting in Washington DC on January 14.  Click here to download the meeting location and agenda.  Researchers and practitioners with interests in one or more of the following subjects are encouraged to attend the meeting and join the committee.

  1. Operational and safety guidelines for interstates and other major roadways during evacuations, including design standards for interstate and other major highways when operating them contra-flow for evacuations.

  2. Applications of ITS and remote sensing systems for evacuations, including the collection, processing, and communication of roadway and weather data to decision makers, evacuees, business and commercial carriers.

  3. Evacuation travel demand forecasting and operational planning.

  4. Human Behavior/Human Factors issues in Evacuations.

  5. Traffic enforcement issues for Evacuations.
